Fairyhouse Easter Festival Schedule

The 2008 Fairyhouse Easter Festival is due to run from Saturday, 22 March to Easter Tuesday on March 25. With over 20 scheduled races and more than €1 million in prize money, the FairyHouse Easter Festival is always eagerly awaited. Feature races for the festival are run on Easter Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

The feature race on Sunday, March 23 is the Powers Gold Cup. This Grade 1 race has a total prize fund of €100,000 and has seen previous winners such as Arkle, Fort Leney, Kinloch Brae, Captain Christy, Bobsline, Carvill’s Hill and Dorans Pride.

The feature race on Easter Monday is the long-awaited Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National, which sees the best horses, jockeys, and trainers compete for the most coveted prize in Irish jump racing. Many horses that run the Irish Grand National have – or go on to – do well at the Grand National in Aintree.

On Tuesday, the feature race is the Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle, with a huge prize fund of €130,000. This two-mile race is limited to horses 4 years and older, with 25 runners. A close contender as a crowd pleaser on Tuesday is the Tattersalls Ireland Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase, over 2 miles, 1 furlong, and with prize money of €100,000
