The first Irish Grand National was run at the Fairyhouse Racecourse in 1870. From that year onward, the race – and betting on who would take the prize – grew in popularity. The Irish Grand National has been held every single year since 1870, bar only 1919 and 1941, when World Wars preventing racing.
